Margaret Nelson
As a child, my favorite gift was a large watercolor set. I remember going outdoors and watching the clouds, trying to capture them on paper. My name is Margaret Nelson and I can't remember not having the desire to paint.
My husband, Don, and I have spent our lives in the ranching business. As the years have rolled by among counting cattle, bookkeeping, attending beauty school and raising two adopted children, I've been able to devote more and more time to drawing and painting, participating in many workshops from area artists.
As a result of having been born in
Western Oklahoma, living in five western states and now in Sunray, Texas, my
painting focus rests in the western landscape and the beautiful natural world
around me.
My work is shown at in other exhibits around the Panhandle. My brother asked me to do a cover painting for his novel "West of the Cross Timbers", a highlight of my painting career. The High Plains Art Group has inspired me to set the bar even higher in my paintings.
